Richard “Rico” Mareira
Richard “Rico” Mareira served in the United States Army for fourteen years. It was during his service that he was introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu though the Modern Army Combatives Program. He started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu exclusively in 2007, in Colorado Springs, CO, and has kept it up ever since, competing and training at all levels. While serving in the Army, stationed at Fort Carson, CO, he earned a position teaching Soldiers in the techniques taught as part of the Modern Army Combatives Program as well as supplementing his training by also becoming proficient in the art of Judo and Wrestling. Rico earned his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt in 2016 and his first degree in 2019 from Andre Quiles.
After training and teaching in multiple training facilities around the country he has learned what works, and more importantly, what does not work regarding training students. This includes training techniques, methodologies, and philosophies. He believes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for anyone who wishes to learn and that all students should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their race, gender, religion, orientation, and belt level. He is committed to our students and their individual training goals, not his own for them.

Very knowledgeable and great with details. Would recommend it to anyone nearby.
Great community environment led by one of the nation's best instructors.
Though my time at Alliance JiuJitsu was brief, I had a great experience and met some great people. The environment within Alliance was very positive and encouraging. Everyone that attended attempted to elevate their skills whilst challenging me to elevate my own. It was Vlad that oversaw and facilitated this creative and rewarding training. Through his patience, kindness, and his vast skill set, my confidence steadily rose with each passing class. I look back fondly at my time at Alliance and still hold it in high regard. Cheers! And thank you!
I’ve been attending training at Ames BJJ for just shy of one year. Two of my youngest children have been attending for just a few months. The staff is patient, kind, understanding, but also knowledgeable, supportive, and encouraging. The facility is clean and orderly and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting.
Vladimir is a great instructor and it's a great laid-back training environment. I highly recommend Alliance to anybody interested in Brazilian jiu jitsu.
